With so many great mobile apps available, we thought we should feature the best of the best. Each Wednesday we will feature an app here as our App of the Week.

Today's App is Dropbox, which has versions available for all major mobile operating systems including iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, and Android.

Dropbox is a file syncing tool that solves several huge problems. I can't stress this enough: Dropbox has completely transformed the workflow of our team at Church OS and we're posting this because we believe it can do the same for your church.

Dropbox is a free application that you can install on the computers and mobile devices of your staff. Once they have the app installed, all users are given 2 free Gigabytes of storage on Dropbox. All files placed into their new Dropbox folder will instantly sync with all members of your team and be stored in the Dropbox cloud. This means that every time you press save on your file, it is backed up to the Dropbox server and updated on every staff members computer.

Here is a quick 101 video on what Dropbox does:

The Key Tasks

Here is a quick rundown the key tasks Dropbox takes care of:

File Syncing

As I mentioned, copies of all Dropbox files are instantly copied to every computer and device that has Dropbox installed. If 2 people are working on the same file, they don't need to worry if they have the latest version because it would've been automatically updated the moment the other author edited the file.

File Sharing

Brace yourself for this: No more transferring files between computers with USB sticks! You can allow particular folders to be shared between all users. In addition, you can allow files to be made public by creating web links. It may sound complicated, but trust me, it's easy and it will save you a ton of time.

Automatic, Instant Backups

This is my favourite feature without a doubt. Every file you have in your Dropbox folder is instantly backed up each time it's saved. That means that if my laptop were to spontaneously combust at this very moment, as upsetting as that would be, I could at least have the peace of mind of knowing that I would not lose a single file and could continue my work on a different computer immediately.

View Files on the Go!

Here's where the mobile app comes into play and has saved me more then a few times. If you're on the go and don't have a computer with you, your mobile device is able to access all your files through the Dropbox app. Whether you need to read over a PDF document once more, or email a file to a co-worker, you can do it all with the Dropbox app.

Review

A recent reviewer of the app said: "Must have app. Since I downloaded it I haven't stopped using it. Connects to all my computers and my iPhone. I'm able to pass my files around and save files in Dropbox to see them on my iPhone. Wow." The current version of the app has received an average rating of 4 out of 5 stars.

Needless to say, I'm just a huge fan of what Dropbox does and wish everyone could feel the peace of mind that I do when it comes to file syncing and automatic backups.
